Construction Manager
Position Summary
The Data Center Implementation Team is responsible for the entire execution process delivering Mission Critical projects from conception through commissioning – working with Sales, Preconstruction, Engineering, Operations, and Management along the way. The DCI Team also works closely with partner contractors to develop a vertically integrated design and delivery approach. The team manages these partners to success through technical feedback and review, and actively participate in the review of and adherence to schedule and budget.
Position Description
CPG is looking for a self-motivated Construction Manager to provide oversight and drive the success of large-scale data center projects. This position covers all aspects of construction and project oversight. Areas of expertise require autonomy and independent discretion in the following areas:
- RFP development and budgeting
- Pre-bid oversight and coordination
- Management and oversight of General Contractor
- Stakeholder in the design phase reviews and documenting outcomes
- Partner with Safety department to ensure a world class culture of Safety is embedded and maintained on the project.
- Ensure general contractor adherence to schedule throughout the project
- Ability to interface with customer for project updates and coordination
- Coordination and supervision of any direct contracts or equipment vendors.
- Coordination with internal stakeholders, design team and subject matter experts
- Oversight of physical construction activities
- Management of commissioning, QA/QC, Telecom, Safety, Security, Logistics, Closeout,
- Manage all parties to ensure documentation per the specs is provided to customer
Position Responsibilities
- Coordinate all work with the design team, consultants, delivery team, operators, and clients
- Support monthly project financial reporting, including forecasting, cash-flow and change orders.
- Closely manage and vet all change orders with GC.
- Review monthly contractor billing and perform job walks to substantiate progress
- Keeps all relative parties informed, via standardized communication protocol and tracking documents.
- Support contract negotiation of new and existing vendors
- Manage / oversee the process for Submittals, RFI’s and documentation from internal team members to ensure that new data center spaces comply with the project requirements, customer requirements, all engineering standards, applicable codes, and specifications
- Manage ongoing lessons learned process, throughout the project lifecycle
- Interact with client operating staff throughout the project to ensure a smooth transition to Ops team.
- Additional duties may be assigned as need at Management’s discretion
Essential Functions
- Participate in thought leadership with a focus on lean principles of construction and cost optimization
- Management of project scope, schedule, and budget
- Drive all aspects of the project schedule, budget, preconstruction, design development, permitting, bids, team oversight, commissioning, and project closeout
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, or a similar field, or equivalent experience
- Construction / Engineering / Architectural Degree a plus
- 7 years of experience in managing construction projects required, 10 to 12+ years preferred.
- Datacenter experience is mandatory.
- Experience in CSA (civil, structural, architectural) and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction management is a requirement.
Physical Demands and Work Environmental Factors
- Occasionally move objects 10-50lbs.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
Travel: 70% if not local to location
Job Location: San Antonio, TX
Remote/Telework: Minimum 2 weeks per month onsite required.
